Effect Magazine presents Rising Stars of Design – the emerging talents who are shaking up the interior design scene. This week: the London-based British Nigerian designer, Miminat Shodeinde
Having initially pursued architecture as a discipline, as soon as Miminat Shodeinde dipped her foot into the world of interiors, she knew instinctively it was for her. Now based in London’s Great Portland Street, the 28-year-old British Nigerian designer actually set up her studio while studying for her degree in interior architecture at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in Scotland: “I had worked in the industry for a while, and also as a freelancer, while building Miminat Designs on the side,” she tells us. “We’ve since grown to a team of four, working with an ever-evolving network of collaborators and artisans.”
Signature Design Aesthetic
“It’s hard to define just one, as I bring together a real mix of references and influences when designing a space,” says Shodeinde. “If I had to sum it up in three words, I would say artistic, layered and refined.”

Championing a relaxed elegance, the designer also describes her design process as more fluid than fixed, so don’t be surprised if one project boasts brutalist references while another is minimalist, soft or romantic.
Notable projects
Miminat – whose work was exhibited at the Design Museum in London as part of a project supporting the next generation of designers in 2021 (“it was a real defining, pinch-me moment,” she enthuses) – has already worked on various projects across the globe including London, Malaga, South Beach, Cape Coast in Ghana, Cape Town and beyond, with her first big project being a beautiful private residence in Westminster.
What’s next
With an impressive number of notable projects already under her belt, it’s safe to say that the future is set to get even busier for Miminat, with a 12-bedroom villa in Portugal, private residence in Kuwait, and the studio’s first-ever hotel project all in the pipeline.
